Valerie Ann (Romano, Halsall) Pless, aged 63 of North Kingstown, RI died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 2, 2021.

Valerie was born in Providence, RI on September 13, 1958. She was the beloved daughter of Dorothy A. (Bragdon) and Louis J. Pugh. She is survived by her loving husband James P. Pless and her devoted daughters Sara (Halsall) Brown and Kayla (Halsall) Tierney. She leaves behind her mother, her stepfather Richard Perry, her sister Anna (Romano) McCaughey, and her brother Martin Carreiro. Valerie was also Grammy to ten wonderful grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her stepsons, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and countless loyal family members and friends.

Valerie graduated from Classical High School in Providence in 1976. She was the practice manager at Lifespan Rheumatology Associates for 20 years prior to her illness. Valerie courageously battled pancreatic cancer for six months. Valerie and her family received an abundance of love and support during that time for which they are most grateful.

Grammy was the title of which she was the proudest. You would often find Valerie caring for one of her grandchildren or shopping for gifts for them. Valerie loved the beach, particularly the beach in Ocean Park, Maine. She attended many concerts of her favorite artists in her life. Valerie lived her life in laughter and love.

Calling hours will be held at Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick from 3-7pm on Monday, November 8, 2021. Valerie’s memorial service will be held at Highland Memorial Park in Johnston on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 10am. In lieu of flowers donations are kindly accepted in Valerie’s name for Hope Health Hospice ( and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (
