Obituary

SUE R. TANNACCIO, 68, OF WOONSOCKET RI PASSED AWAY ON JANUARY 2,2021 AT THE PHILIP HULITAR HOSPICE CENTER IN PROVIDENCE, RI. SUE WAS THE BELOVED SPOUSE OF THE LATE JEANETTE DOYON. BORN IN PROVIDENCE, SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF THE LATE ALBERT R. AND MARY LOUISE (SARTORI) TANNACCIO AND STEP DAUGHTER OF THE LATE MARIE C. TANNACCIO.

UPON GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL, SUE SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS AND WENT ON TO EARN HER DEGREE IN ACCOUNTING BUT HER PASSION WAS ALWAYS TO COOK.

SHE WAS AN INCREDIBLE CHEF WORKING IN NUMEROUS RESTAURANTS AND COUNTRY CLUBS IN RI AND MA OVER THE LAST 40 YEARS RETIRING IN 2013 DUE TO ILLNESS. HER ADMIRATION FOR ANTHONY BOURDAIN AND JOSE ANDRES LARGELY INFLUENCED HER CAREER.

FEW PEOPLE ARE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO WORK AT THEIR PASSION. SUE LIVED HER PASSION FOR FOOD EVERY DAY OF HER LIFE AND DEDICATED HER LIFE TO THAT PASSION. SHE BELIEVED COOKING WAS A WAY TO NOURISH THE SOUL AND SHARING A MEAL WAS THE MOST INTIMATE AND LOVING WAY TO SHOW YOU CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER.  SHE CULTIVATED AND NURTURED HER LONG LASTING FRIENSHIPS AROUND THE DINNER TABLE. SUE SERVED MANY OF THE TRADITIONAL MEALS SHE LEARNED FROM HER NONNA ROSA AND GRANDMA SUSIE AND LOVED SHARING RECIPES WITH CUSTOMERS AND FRIENDS. SHE WAS HONORED WHEN ASKED TO SHARE HER DELICIOUS CREATIONS.  HER GNOCCHI, CRAB CAKES, POLENTA, RABBIT CACCIATORE, AND PASTA FAGIOLI WERE UNMATCHED.    SHE MADE EVERY DINNER EXTRA SPECIAL AND WAS THRILLED WHEN SOMEONE TOLD HER SO. IT IS UNIMAGINABLE TO THINK SHE WILL NOT BE IN THE KITCHEN COOKING UP A STORM FOR EVERY HOLIDAY, AND IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLACE THE LOVE SHE BROUGHT TO EVERY MEAL.

SUE IS SURVIVED BY HER SISTER, BARBARA TANNACCIO GANNON, BROTHER, DAVID TANNACCIO AND HIS WIFE KAREN, NIECES KAYTE AND JENNA, STEPBROTHER VINCENT CONCA AND STEPSISTER DONNA D’ANTUONO  HER LOVING GRANDDAUGHTER HEATHER AND GREAT GRANDSONS RICHARD AND AIDEN  WERE THE LIGHT OF HER LIFE AND BROUGHT ENDLESS JOY TO ALL HER DAYS. SHE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY A LOVING EXTENDED FAMILY OF TANNACCIOS, BRAZZALES AND DOYONS.

A SINCERE THANK YOU TO THE NEUROLOGY STAFFS AT RI HOSPITAL AND THE VA HOSPITAL, ESPECIALLY HER PHYSICIANS, DR. HEINRICH ELINZANO AND DR STEPHEN MERNOFF FOR YOUR KINDNESS, WISDOM AND COMPASSION DURING SUE’S DIFFICULT BATTLE. SHE WAS FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR THE OPENNESS, ACCEPTANCE AND RESPECT YOU SHOWED HER FOR THE CHOICES SHE MADE THROUGHOUT HER ILLNESS.  TO STEPHANIE IN NEUROLOGY AND RON, HER FAVORITE PAL AND PT SPECIALIST AT THE VA, WHO PUSHED HER TO HER LIMITS UP TO HER LAST WEEKS, SHE LOVED HIM FOR IT AND THEIR JOKING AND LAUGHTER WAS DEFINITELY THE BEST MEDICINE. AND A HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO THE STAFF AT HOSPICE FOR THEIR LOVE, COMFORT AND CARE, THE LATE  NIGHT  CONVERSATIONS, ENDLESS BLACK COFFEES AND FOR MAKING CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR’S THE BEST THEY COULD BE. SHE KNEW SHE WAS IN A SACRED SAFE PLACE AND HOW LOVED YOU MADE HER FEEL.

AN EXTRA SPECIAL THANK YOU TO HER GODMOTHER ELAINE. SUE LOOKED FORWARD TO THOSE CALLS EVERY DAY, REMINISCING OF CHILDHOOD MEMORIES AND OF COURSE THE CONVERSATION ALWAYS ENDED WITH WHAT’S FOR DINNER.TO HER CLOSE FRIEND CINDY, WHO COERCED HER INTO TAKING HER PILLS, EATING BREAKFAST EACH MORNING, MAKING POTS OF COFFEE TOO NUMEROUS TO COUNT, AND PATIENTLY WATCHING EVERY COOKING SHOW ROUND THE CLOCK WITH SUE. AND TO DIANE AND BOB WHO WERE ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR A JAUNT OUTSIDE FOR A SMOKE WHEN HER LEGS COULDN’T TAKE HER OUTDOORS ANY LONGER.

SUE’S DEFINING CULINARY PASSION: STRONG BLACK COFFEE AND 2 JELLY DONUTS ( ALWAYS ACCOMPANIED BY  A SENECA IN HAND)

SUE WAS TOUGH AND GENTLE , SHE HAD A LARGER THAN LIFE PERSONALITY AND A HEART TO MATCH. HER GENEROSITY AND ABILITY TO CARE FOR EVERYONE SHE MET WAS EVIDENT IN ALL THAT SHE DID.  SHE WAS INCREDIBLY FUNNY AND HER SARCASTIC SENSE OF HUMOR DEFINITELY CAUGHT YOU OFF GUARD.

SUE’S SENSE TO NEVER GIVE IN OR GIVE UP IS A TRIBUTE TO HER WARRIOR SPIRIT THESE PAST SEVEN YEARS. HER STRENGTH TO KEEP GOING AND NEVER COMPLAIN OF PAIN HAS LEFT A DEEP IMPREESION ON THE HEARTS OF HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS. SHE WAS A PRECIOUS GIFT TO US ALL AND SHE WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED.

SUE CAN NOW SEE THE GLORIOUS SUNRISES AND SUNSETS WITH THE CLEAREST VISION.SHE CAN  HOLD   HER KNIVES TIGHTLY IN HER HANDS AND CHOP  EVERY LITTLE VEGETABLE AND SHE CAN NOW  WALK AND  RUN BECAUSE SHE IS  FREE AND AT PEACE IN HEAVEN WHERE SHE FINALLY GETS TO HANG OUT AND CAUSE A RUCKUS WITH HER BEST FRIENDS PENNY AND PAULA.

WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU BEYOND WORDS SUE….

DUE TO COVID, ALL ARRANGEMENTS ARE PRIVATE.

IN CELEBRATION OF SUE’S LIFE, RAISE A TOAST TO HER AND SHARE A MEAL WITH A FRIEND. IT WOULD BE THE GREATEST HONOR TO HER AND SHE WOULD BE BEAMING WITH THAT AWESOME SMILE.
