Born in Davao, Philippines, on July 29, 1925, Philomena entered the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary September 13, 1949 at Tagatay, Philippines. After entering the Novitiate in 1950, she made her First Vows on March 19, 1952.

Philomena had a Teaching Certificate in 1947 from Misamis Institute and a BS in Education in 1955 from Stella Maris, Manila. Later she obtained an MA from Ateneo University, Manila in 1964. Still later, Philomena received a PhD from Boston College, USA, in Pastoral Psychology and Counseling.   

While still in the Philippines Philomena taught at Our Lady of Loreto Academy in Legarda, Manila, an FMM mission.  She also did catechetical work in public schools and found time each Saturday to visit prisoners at the National Penitentiary. Pronouncing her Final Vows, March 19, 1955 in Tagatay, she was missioned to Tagatay to be School Principal of Our Lady of Loreto Academy in Manila. Seven years later, Philomena was missioned to establish Stella Maris School, a Kindergarten to Secondary School in Cebu City. In 1964, Philomena was missioned to Djakarta, Indonesia where she served as School Principal at Regina Pacis International School, a school for children of diplomats. In 1967, her mission was to serve as Juniorate Mistress in Bogor and two years after that, she became a part-time counselor at Churches Counseling Center in Singapore. Philomena was able to use her gifts of organization and leadership in 1970 when she was missioned to be Directress of Ha Sing Dewasa Commercial School for Girls.

In 1976 Philomena was called to serve in the USA as a Psychotherapist at the House of Affirmation with the Franciscan Sisters in Sylvania, Ohio, to help clergy and religious with difficulties, until 1982 when she was missioned back to the Philippines as a directress of a renewal program for the FMM. Returning to the USA in 1984, Philomena served as a counselor and retreat director giving workshops and seminars. She also helped with the Spanish and English Presidia of the Legion of Mary. In 1994 Philomena was missioned to be a coordinator of Our Lady of Peace Community at Fruit Hill. In 1998 she was missioned to Pawtucket, St. John the Baptist Convent to conduct adult scripture classes and do counseling. Returning to Fruit Hill, Philomena continued her mission of counseling and led a Bible Sharing Group each Saturday. More recently, in 2018, Philomena’s mission was to Ein Karim Community at St. Antoine Residence where she was always a person of prayer and spirituality. Much respected for her skills and deep spiritual wisdom, Philomena’s constant motto in life had always been: “May God’s Holy will be done until the end.” Sr. Philomena went home to God on January 2, 2021. Her burial will be in private.
