Patricia Garner (Laing) McGuinn, 92, of Narragansett Rhode Island, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 10, 2021 at the home of her daughter in Warwick, RI.
Born in Orange, NJ, she was the daughter of the lateJames and Olive (Sims) Laing.
Pat was cherished by so many but by no one more than her late husband, Frank, with whom she enjoyed 62 years of marriage before his death. Together they built a legacy of 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Married during World War II, they met at a USO event while she was living in St. Petersburg, Florida as he was awaiting orders to ship out. He went to war in the Pacific shortly after their marriage. They raised their family in East Providence, RI until they retired to their beach home in Narragansett. Pat was actively involved in the lives of her 4 children as well as in the East Providence community. She was employed by the East Providence School Department as a secretary in the High School administration office.
Pat’s 92 years were well spent. Her laughter and generous ways will forever be remembered. Pat was always ready for an adventure and searched for opportunities to help others. It was a complete joy to be in her company. The happiest moments in Pat’s life were the times that she spent with her beloved family. Her home was an open and welcoming place. During her retirement she was a dedicated volunteer at her Church, Saint Mary’s Star of the Sea and at South County Hospital. The perfect role model for her family, she will always be remembered for her kindness, open mind and loving heart as well as her strength of character.
Upon her death, Pat has been reunited with her husband as well as her precious daughter, Marianne Doyle, who passed away a few years ago.
Pat is survived by a son, Michael McGuinn (Mary), two daughters, Kathleen Dod (Robert), Robyn Zwolinski, eleven grandchildren, and twenty great grandchildren.
Pat was also predeceased by her two sisters, Natalie Bogan and Winifred Koon.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful nurses and CNA’s who helped care for her and the compassionate nurses of Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice.
