Michael Robert MacLaughlin

March 2, 1948 ~ April 29, 2020 (age 72)

Obituary

Michael Robert MacLaughlin or more affectionately known as Dynomike or Dyno, 72, of North Kingstown, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at his home, surrounded by those he loved.  Mike was the beloved husband of Mary Ann (Maroney) MacLaughlin.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Michael was the second son of Elizabeth A. (Barr) MacLaughlin and the late Archie A. MacLaughlin.

Besides his wife and his mother, Michael is survived by a son, Severence M. MacLaughlin, Ph.D, Wellington, FL;  a daughter, Kathryn “Katie” MacLaughlin, North Kingstown;  three brothers, David J. MacLaughlin, Sean P. MacLaughlin, Casey B. MacLaughlin; and three sisters, Gayla MacLaughlin Mayo, Patricia A. MacLaughlin, and Mary E. MacLaughlin; and many nieces and nephews.

Michael graduated from North Kingstown High School and went on to serve his country proudly, as a member of the US Coast Guard (1967 – 1971). Mike and Mary Ann owned and operated, Dynomike, Inc. In addition to blasting and fireworks, Dyno loved nothing more than his ten-wheeler and hauling.  Mike was extremely particular about how his equipment was kept and operated, and the only thing Dyno was more particular about besides his Mack was coffee breaks. As far as he was concerned coffee breaks are a birthright.

Michael was active in the community having been a founding member of the RI Independent Contractors Association and served as Vice President and Board Member for over thirty years alongside some of his long-life friends.  Additionally, Mike was a member of the New England Society of Explosive Engineers, New England Rock Busters and the Model A Club of Rhode Island.

Dyno and Dad will be deeply missed.  We thank him for being in our lives and having a positive impact on many friends and family members.  If Dyno teased you or gave you a hard time that meant he was fond of you.  “What?” “Excuse Me?”…If you knew Mike, you were familiar with this expression.

Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date
