Mary Jane Fontaine

October 15, 1935 ~ September 13, 2020 (age 84)

Mary Jane (Dillon) Fontaine, 84, passed away on September 13, 2020 in Providence. She was the devoted mother of Charles Philip Fontaine, and Cheryl A. DiNitto and her husband, Angelo. Mary was the cherished grandmother of Peter and Alyssa DiNitto. She is also survived by her sister, Bernadette Dillon.

Mary was the daughter of the late Thomas and Edna (Holt) Dillon.  She was the wife of the late C. Philip Fontaine with whom she operated a family pharmacy, Jerry's Chemist Shop, on Broad Street in Cranston for almost twenty years.

Mary led a joyful life and adored her family and friends. She triumphed over life’s adversities including living with mental illness.  Her enduring love of her family and friends allowed her to live a fulfilled, productive life. Mary fought hard to ensure that she was there for her family and enjoyed lots of laughter, love, and happiness.

Mary had a deep appreciation for family and friends and she cherished her time with them. She was a devout Catholic and a graduate of Holy Name of Jesus grade school and Saint Patrick's Academy in Providence. Mary always tried to bring out the good in people and in life. She instilled these values in her children and grandchildren. Mary will remain in the hearts of her family and friends for the remaining days of their lives.

Mary was a kind, spirited soul with a beautiful smile that would light up a room and she had a loving, positive spirit. May she find peace with the Lord.

One of Mary's favorite poems was the Irish Blessing: " May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm on your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand."

The family wishes to extend our special thanks for the loving care and kindness given by her professional caregivers during her final years on this earth.
