Obituary

Retired US Army Lt. Colonel Thomas Ignatius Mainey, 77, of Johnston,RI  passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side. He is the husband of Tessie ( Navarro ) Mainey.

Born in Providence he was the son of the late James and Madelyn ( Knowles ) Mainey

Mr. Mainey was a 1961 graduate of LaSalle Academy and Providence College where he earned his Masters Degree in Education in 1971.

Mr. Mainey went on to teach at Mt. Pleasant High School, Gilbert Stuart Middle School and Providence Academy of International Studies. In 1977 Thomas enlisted in the United States Army where he had a 28 year career retiring in 2003 as a Lieutenant Colonel. Some of Mr. Mainey’s primary specialty training consisted of Field Artillery , Adjutant General and Tactical Intelligence.

An avid reader and sports fan Thomas loved his alma mater, Providence College Mens Basketball. He loved cars, was a collector of license plates and loved to travel to the Philippines.

Mr. Mainey loved his family and besides his wife is survived by his children, Thomas I. Mainey, Alicia L. Gaudiana ( Mainey ), Diana Navarro, his step children, Michele, BJ, and Robert. He also leaves his adoring grandchildren, Joseph Gaudiana, Justin Gaudiana, Jacob Mainey, Jayla Mainey, many step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Mainey is the brother of the late James Mainey, Richard Mainey, William Mainey, Madelyn Searle, Elizabeth Tallman, Marilyn Tonnessen, Dorothy Linstrom, Norma Hennessey and Ann McGee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Friday January 15, 2021 at 10:00 am in St. Pius V Church, 240 Eaton Street, Providence. Calling hours in the Church will be from 9:00-9:50 am the morning of the Funeral Mass. Please be advised that Mass must start promptly at 10:00 am.

Because of the current Covid restrictions, burial with Full Military Honors at St. Ann Cemetery will need to be private.
