Gelevatea “Tea” Gibbs (Warren), 80 died on June 2, 2021 at Berkshire Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Tea was born in Texas on September,12 1940. She was known by all as an outgoing, rambunctious, “good” person with a big heart. She was always giving and willing to help others. During her early years, she was known by her siblings and her children as being a spunky and a carefree person. She was the oldest of nine children, so she was always considered the mama bear. As a child she moved from Texas to Providence, Rhode Island with her family. Providence, Rhode Island is where she would spend much of adult life. Tea and her family were active members of The Holy Cross Church of God and Christ, in Providence, RI. Tea worked at several hospitals and at a local nursing home as a Dietary Aide, until she later retired. Tea always had a loving heart and giving soul and soon after retirement she became a foster parent. She initially fostered family members that were in the foster care system and soon branched out to foster other children in need. Tea lived in the Chad Brown neighborhood for over two decades. She was extremely active in her neighborhood and always able to lend a helping hand.
Tea was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Edwina Belcher, her Three brothers Robert “Butch” Belcher, Jerry Belcher and John Belcher and her and two sisters Evangeline Richards and Carlise Johnson
She was survived by her five sons David Gibbs of Newport, RI, Gary Gibbs, Richard Gibbs, Charles Gibbs, Sr and Vincent Gibbs all of Providence, RI; sisters Glorita Nunally of Providence, RI, Preneta Arrington of Winston Salem, NC and LaJune Gadson of Havre de Grace, MD. Tea also leaves behind twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Tea will be missed by many including her sons who referred to her as Moms and her grandchildren who referred to her as nana.
The family will receive guests on Monday, June 7, 2021 from 2:00pm- 5:00pm at Russell J Boyle & Son Funeral, 331 Smith St, Providence, RI 02908. Repass will be held at JL's Dana's Sports Lounge, 1410R Mineral Spring Ave, 530 Woodward Rd, North Providence, RI 02904 immediately following the service.
