The family of Edwin Paul Zienowicz, 91 of Providence, RI is saddened to announce his death on December 19, 2020 after a brief illness.
Eddy was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, Providence, RI where he starred as a running back. He continued playing football for the United States Air Force, most notably playing in the Lily Bowl in Bermuda. During enlistment, he was a weatherman and achieved the rank of Sergeant Major. Following his service years, Eddy was the business manager for Central Vending Co., Central Falls, RI and the owner of Central Amusements, Central Falls, RI. He was assistant scoutmaster of Troop 1 Diamond Hill, in Cumberland, RI and an assistant little league coach for the Cumberland Braves for many years.
A dedicated father, Eddy attended hundreds of his sons athletic events and in later years always enjoyed attending his Rhode Island 102nd squadron reunions to reconnect with his military buddies. Following retirement in Palm Coast, FL for 25 years, he returned to his beloved Providence. Eddy was an avid sports lover who never missed a Patriots, Red Sox or Providence College basketball game.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Phyllis and three sons: Richard Zienowicz, Providence, RI, Gregory Zienowicz, Roswell, GA and Joseph Zienowicz, Punta Gorda, FL. He is also survived by two siblings: Frank Zienowicz, Lincoln, RI and Carolyn Ryan, Cumberland, RI. He will be fondly remembered by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A mass and celebration of life will be announced at a later date. The family has requested that remembrance be made in the form of a contribution to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
