Roland Pierre Bonvouloir, (86) passed away November 4, 2018 after a long illness. Roland was born September 25, 1932 in North Adams, MA and was the son of Adrien Bonvouloir and Gladys (St. Denis) Bonvouloir. He was married to Jeanne (Claudell) Bonvouloir for 48 years until her passing.
Roland has three daughters, Julie A. Spinella (Robert) of Providence, RI, Lisa A. Foote (Robert) of Dublin, OH and Anne Y. Bonvouloir of North Providence, RI. Grandfather to Robert M. Spinella (Susan), Jennifer Zappulla (Daniel). Pop Pop to Kelly and Matthew Foote. Great Grandfather (Papa Pete) to Dominic and Peter Zappulla. Roland also leaves sisters Annette Hart and Yvette Chalock. He is pre-deceased by brothers Adrien Bonvouloir and Father Phillip Bonvouloir, AA. He was uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business from Siena College in Albany, NY.
Roland served our nation proudly in the US Army and was stationed in Germany.
Employed by Otis Elevator, Barnes Engineering and Cober Electronics in Stamford CT where he served as Comptroller for many years prior to his retirement. Roland served on various committees in the Town of Milford, CT where he raised his family. In Milford he served as a moderator every year on Election Day. He helped to organize the annual 4th of July Vermont Avenue Block Party. Upon retirement Roland moved with his wife to Harwich, MA for several years before relocating in North Providence, RI.
Roland was an active member of St. Thomas Church in Providence until his illness. He volunteered as a friendly visitor to parishioners who were homebound in local nursing facilities. He also served as an alter server for funerals and participated in the Annual Christmas fair and served as financial advisor to the parish business manager. He served for many years on the Oakcrest Village Board and volunteered each spring to help prepare taxes for the elderly in the towns of Milford, CT and North Providence.
Roland’s greatest love was his family. He loved the Berkshires where he grew up, and Cape Cod where he vacationed with his family for years. His smile and sense of humor would light up a room. He was always willing to lend a hand to family, friends and even those he didn’t know very well. His greatest joys were his four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who loved him dearly.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 8:30 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Ave, Providence, RI 02909. Burial with military honors will follow in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
