John S. Gionis, 67, of Providence, died Thursday at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the beloved husband of Verna J. (Iafallo) Gionis, they were married for 43 years.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John P. and Yvette (Paquin) Gionis.
John was the previous owner of Governor Dyer Buffet house, and later went on to work as a chef. He was a kind hearted person who was loved by all.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, John P. Gionis, and his fiance Heather Connor, and Charles W. Gionis and his companion Stephanie LaPrade, a brother, William J. “Billy” Gionis, a grand daughter Autumn, and he leaves his mother in law, Norma Guarniero. He was the brother of the late Charles and Ernest “Butchie” Gionis.
The funeral will be on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 11:00 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 noon. Graveside burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Providence.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday evening, from 5 to 8 pm.
