Henry E. Latek, Sr., of Jastram Street, died Thursday at Miriam Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Arleen R. (Davis) Latek for the past forty-nine years.
Born in Chicago, IL, he was a son of the late Frank and Stella (Danko) Latek.
Henry served our country proudly as a member of the United States Navy. After his military service, he worked as a firefighter for the Providence Fire Department, and rose to Battalion Chief of Rescue during his 34 years of service, before his retirement in 1995. In his spare time he was a coach and former President of Elmhurst Little League for 30 years, and was a faithful communicant of Saint Pius V Church. Henry was a scout leader of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 53,Saint Pius, where he was awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver Award for his distinguished service to the youth of the parish.
In addition to his wife Arleen, he leaves two sons, Henry E. Latek, Jr. (Ret CFD) and his wife Michelle, and Eric S. Latek and his wife Letitia; two brothers, Frank Latek and James Budz; and six grandchildren, Megan, Amanda, Chelsea, Thomas, Travis, and Jake. He was the father of the late Lori Latek-Kerri, and brother of the late Walter Budz and Thomas Latek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning, at 10:00 am, in Saint Pius V Church, Eaton Street, Providence, to which relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private. Visiting hours Tuesday, 4:00 - 8:00 pm, in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. In lieu of flowers, donations to Boy Scouts of America, Troop 53, ℅ Saint Pius V Church, 55 Elmhurst Avenue, Providence, RI 02908 in his memory would be appreciated.
