Elizabeth A. Hughson "Betty Ann", 70 of Cumberland, RI died on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by family and friends
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she had also resided in Warwick, RI, Cranston, RI and Brookline, MA before moving to Cumberland, RI.
Daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (McGinnis) Hughson and aunt to the late Mark Wilbur. She is survived by her sister Barbara Wilbur, niece Bonnie Andrade (George), nephew Charles Wilbur (Leanne) great nieces Brittany Andrade, Stephanie Wilbur; great nephews Kyle Andrade, Matthew and Michael Wilbur, and dear friends Doris Briggs and Jennifer Briggs.
Betty Ann graduated from St. Xavier Academy, Roger Williams School of Nursing and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Salve Regina University and a Masters of Science in Nursing degree from Boston University. She worked at Rhode Island Hospital on 5A and later in the Dialysis Unit, the Artificial Kidney Center of East Providence, The Miriam Hospital as a Nurse Educator, and the New England Organ Bank. Betty Ann had several positions at Children’s Hospital in Boston in the Renal and Transplant Division during the 35 years she worked there. She loved interacting with the children and teaching the Renal fellows and nurses. She was very active in the Renal Community and served on the Board of Directors for the ESRD Network of New England and also the Medical Review Board.
Betty Ann loved to travel the world and had visited many countries, Walt Disney World was one of her many favorite destinations, she loved Mickey and all things Disney. She very much enjoyed and looked forward to the annual Trinity trip to London each fall.
Betty Ann was involved with the arts, a supporter of Trinity Repertory Company and the Manton Ave project where she enjoyed the interaction with the children, as well as The Gamm Theater. She learned to paint several years ago and enjoyed creating art with the LLC Plein Air group the past few summers.
She was an active volunteer with Trinity Rep, an active member and volunteer with the LLC, the Life-Long Learning Collaborative and Waterfire Providence.
Betty Ann kept active using her Fitbit to ensure she walked at least 5000 steps each day rain or shine.
Betty Ann had a gift for friendship, she was always thinking of others as evidenced by her wide ranging circle of friends. Her positive outlook, wonderful sense of humor and sweet smile will be sadly missed.
Her funeral will begin on Tuesday at 9:00 am in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rt. 117) Warwick. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am in Saint Ann Cemetery Chapel, 73 Church Street, Cranston, RI.
