Obituary

Danielle Leilani Riotte, 29, passed away on September 29, 2019, due to complications of childbirth. She was born in Columbia, South Carolina, lived in Darmstadt Germany for 5 years then moved to Rhode Island where she lived until 2012.

She is survived by her infant daughter, Bobbi Elizabeth Gates-Riotte, her fiancée, Jacob Gates, her parents, John and Stephanie (Travers) Riotte, and her brother, Andrew Riotte. She also leaves behind a loving grandmother, Elizabeth Travers and Aunts and Uncles; Joseph and Margarita Travers, David and Kim Travers, Margaret Riotte, Ann and Michael Avesato, and beloved cousins Allison and Peter Spinella and their three daughters, whom Danielle adored, Sophia, Alexandra, and Elizabeth. She also leaves behind many other cousins and dear friends all over the world. Danielle was predeceased by her paternal grandparents Robert and Martha (Miniter) Riotte.

Danielle graduated in 2009 from South Kingstown High School, South Kingstown, Rhode Island. Dani loved to play all kinds of sports. She was a beloved team member of the Java Madness softball team, high school Lacrosse and Field Hockey teams. She was also a valued employee of the Mews Tavern for 6 years.

After high school Danielle headed out on many adventures. Her favorite was the 2 months she traveled throughout Thailand and Cambodia, by herself, finally settling in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she eventually met her true love Jacob Gates. Danielle worked many jobs to include BJ’s restaurant, Mykonos Café and Taverna. Most recently, Danielle found her true calling working at North Ridge Alzheimer's Special Care Center as an activity coordinator. She loved all her residents and their family members.

29 years of life is a very short time to live on this earth. Our Dani lived one heck of life in those short years. She loved hard and fierce, she always fought for the underdog, her laughter was contagious to all that heard it. Her spirit will always be remembered as adventurous and sometimes wild. what a life, what travels, what stories…Danielle will always be remembered by her generosity, infectious positive spirt, smile, and laughter.

Danielle loved music, ALL music. The rhythm, the beat of music spoke to her and moved her no matter where she was. In the car, walking down the street, in the shower and many many other places!!

The Ocean was her first love! The warmth of the sand, the touch of the sun, and the sound of the waves gave her such peace, pleasure, and a sense of belonging to a greater power.

Later in life she fell in love with the mountains in New Mexico. They called to her and she answered. She was in amazement of their beauty as she hiked through them often with her beloved dog Cheyenne, whom she rescued shortly after she moved to NM. Danielle also loved to go horseback riding on the Mesa.

Our families would like to express our deepest thanks to all of Danielle and Bobbi’s medical teams who were so professional, compassionate, understanding and caring as they guided and supported us through this time, from those at South County Hospital who worked so hard to keep Danielle in the fight and to deliver Bobbi, to the Doctors, Nurses and multiple medical teams at Rhode Island Hospital MICU and Woman’s & Infants NICU who have watched over Danielle and Bobbi…words simply cannot express how we feel. You all are now a true part of our journey and our family forever…THANK YOU!!!
