Charles P. Mitchell Jr., 79, of Cumberland, passed away Monday at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Charles P. and Edna M. (Burns) Mitchell, Sr.
Charlie was a character, a straight shooter who thought and lived “outside the box”. His world view was centered on family. He had a unique but rigid moral code that included; treating each person he met as an individual human being regardless of their ethnicity, race or religion; doing the right thing especially when it is difficult, standing up for the weak and fulfilling your responsibilities, especially to your family.
He enjoyed challenging others with his unique sense of humor, work ethic and family values.
After rising to Regional Sales Director of New England for Richard’s Company a door-to-door encyclopedia company, Charlie was self-employed, starting and running two direct sales companies for 40 years.
He leaves his long time companion Lucy Enright, two sons, Richard C. Mitchell and Domenic J. Mitchell and wife Deirde; three daughters, Kimberly A. (Mitchell) McCormick, Kristen M. Mitchell and Charlene R. Mitchell; a brother, Thomas Mitchell; a sister, Mary Nicholas; eleven grandchildren and a great-grandson. He was predeceased by his brother, John “Sonny” Mitchell and Patricia Corrigan.
The funeral will be held Saturday, at 8:45 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, (Rt 117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Mercy Church 63 3rd St, East Greenwich 02818. Burial will be in Saint Patrick Cemetery, East Greenwich. Visiting hours Friday, 4:00 – 8:00 pm.
