Alan Thomas Clarkin

December 21, 1942 ~ May 14, 2018 (age 75)

 Alan T. Clarkin., 75, of Narraganset, passed away peacefully on May 14th. He was the loving husband of Delia M. (Ball) Clarkin for more than 43 years.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Matthew A. and Elsie A. (Hanes) Clarkin.

Alan was a graduate of Hope High School. He worked as a lineman for New England Telephone Company (later Verizon) for more than 30 years. After his retirement from the telephone company he worked for several more years, first at Arnold Lumber and later as the Sexton for St. Thomas More Parish of Narragansett, before finally retiring. In his younger years he worked as a Reserve Police Officer for the Narragansett Police Department and for Electric Boat.

Alan was a devoted and loving father to Jeanie A. of Philadelphia, Brian M. of Narragansett, and Daniel A. and his wife Lori of Basking Ridge, N.J.

He was the proud and loving grandfather of Jack, Alexa, Riley, Sophie, Bailee and Peyton.

He is survived by his three sisters, Patricia MacLellan, Rosemary Clarkin, and Elsie Diggins and his four brothers, Matthew, Robert, William and his wife Elizabeth, and Daniel and his wife Maureen. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jeanie Ball, his brother-in-laws Albert and Michael and their wives Sandra and Regina respectively. He was the uncle and great uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his brother-in-laws Grant MacLellan and James Diggins as well as his nephews Kevin Clarkin and Thomas MacLellan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10:00 am in Saint Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Katie King Foundation (http://www.katiekingfoundation.com/). Katie is a former teammate of Alan’s granddaughter, Sophie, and is currently battling a very aggressive form of pediatric cancer.  Burial will be private.
