Michael J. O'Malley

O’Malley, Michael Joseph, 63, formerly of Lincoln, RI, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, John and Karen O’Malley, in South Kingstown.

He was born on October 13, 1949, in Pawtucket to the late George F. and Helen M. (Baker) O’Malley.

He was a graduate of Holy Name School, LaSalle Academy, and attended Providence College. Michael worked at the RI State Department of Health and then for decades at the RI State Department of Transportation as an engineer’s assistant. He also ran his own landscaping business. An extremely conscientious worker, he was a self-schooled, gifted, and creative craftsman in wood, stone, and soil.

Michael is survived by a loving family of seven siblings: John and Karen (Moretti) O’Malley; Paul and Carolyn (Donahue) O’Malley of Cranston; Maureen and John Madden of Warwick; Anne Marie and Richard Daley of Cranston; George and Christine (Diamond) of Farnborough, Kent, England; Helen, wife of the late Armando Ferrucci of North Providence; Robert and Leslie (Wu) O’Malley of Hingham, MA. He also leaves seven nephews and five nieces and nineteen grandnephews and nieces, all of whom loved their Uncle Mike dearly. He was predeceased by his long-faithful dog Max.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church, 99 Camp Street, Providence. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 29, 2013, 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Assumption Church Food Pantry, 791 Potters Ave, Providence, RI 02907 in his memory will be appreciated.
