Edwin F. Mara

Naples Florida: Mara, Edwin F., 87, of Naples Florida and formerly of North Providence, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Naples Community Hospital. He was the husband of the late Dorothy M. (Mayer) Mara.

Born in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Edwin M. and Ethel (Burch) Mara.

Ed was a graduate of La Salle Academy, class of 1942 and Providence College, graduating with a B.S. in Biology in 1947.

He was a sales representative for Lederle Laboratories, Walker Company and Northern Electric Company for thirty-nine years, and later President of Mara Associates, Inc.

Ed served on the Board of Governors at Providence College and was also President of the Providence College Alumni Association.

He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was Chairman, St. Elizabeth Seton Parish Golf Tournament from 1993 to 1997 in Naples.

Ed was active in CYO and many parish activities in St. Lawrence Parish , North Providence where he served as Trustee, Auditor and President of the Holy Name Society, and was a past Grand Knight, Dillon Council, K of C.

He was Chairman of the Blood Donor Program and Catholic Activities Committee for the State of Rhode Island Council K of C. He was Chief Steward of the Irish Kings and President of the North Providence West Little League and Senior League.

He is survived by his children, Sheila Meresak of Mo, John F. Mara of Naples and Joan E. McQueeney and her husband Patrick of Narragansett, six grandchildren, Michael, David and Catherine Meresak, John R. Mara and Michelle and Shawn McQueeney and a great granddaughter Anna Meresak. He was the brother of the late Kenneth Mara.

His funeral will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 8:15 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church, Point Judith Road, Narragansett. Burial with military honors, will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours, Thursday, 4-7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, Ma 02241-7005 and Providence College, One Cunningham Square, Providence, RI 02918, and St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 2700 52nd Terrace SW, Naples, FL 34116 in his memory would be appreciated.
