Vincent F.,” Papa” DeMasi, 90, formerly of Beacon Street, died peacefully Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at Cherry Hill Manor where he was well cared for by the compassionate third floor staff.
He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine (Cammisa) DeMasi and cherished father of the late Marie E. (DeMasi) Bastia.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Pasquale and Vincenza (D’Antico) DeMasi.
Vin owned and operated the Vincent F. DeMasi Trucking Company, and was a sub-contractor for M.A. Gammino Construction Company and Cardi Brothers Construction Company for many years. After selling his business, he drove for Calise Bakery for several years before retiring. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 251, for many years.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was the adoring grandfather of Laura Maria Bastia of Johnston, and the brother of Viola DeMeglio of Providence. He also leaves his devoted son-in-law, Edward J. Bastia of Johnston. He was a brother of the late Peter, Antonio and Pasquale DeMasi, Carmella Altobello, Anna Baptista and Mary Blakely.
The funeral will be held Friday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Joseph Church, 92 Hope Street, Providence. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Thursday 4 - 7 pm.
