Mary G. Ryan

Providence

Mary G. Ryan, of Providence, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2012 at Tockwotton Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward P. Ryan.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Nora G. (Wall) Doolan.

Mary graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1937. She attended Simmons College to study Public Health Nursing. She was a Red Cross Nurse during World War II.

Mrs. Ryan was a communicant of Saint Augustine Church, and a member of the parish Rosary and Altar Society, the Veridames of Providence College, the Ladies of Fatima Guild and the Saint Joseph Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association. Mary was the first president of the former Nurses Guild of the Thomistic Institute at Providence College.

She is survived by her loving children, Daniel Ryan and his wife Jane, Maryanne Ryan, Roberta Ryan and her husband Donald Forsyth, and Patricia Ryan; and her beloved sister, Roberta Doolan; six cherished grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and a step-great-granddaughter. She was the loving mother of the late Teddy Ryan, and the late Christine Ryan, and sister of the late John Doolan, Anne Feid, and Helen Doolan.

The funeral will be held Friday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Augustine Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Burial will be in Saint Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours Thursday, 4 – 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Tockwotton Home, 75 East Street, Providence, RI 02903 in her memory will be appreciated.
